PROJECT BLRracing

PROJECT BLRracing

Project BLRracing is an ongoing project I came up with to test my car design capability and to see how far I can take my ideas into reality. I decided to play out a dream where BLRdesign has a branch called BLRracing which will act as a Car Manufacturer.

So the task is to design a fleet of automobiles that are truest to what I would want to see from the many layouts in existence (FF, FR, MR, RR, 4WD). This fleet is not to be restricted in any way at this stage the goal is to get the truest forms of expression out for these many platforms then hone down what could make sense to move into the next development phase, we will get into that later…

First up is MR, I chose to focus on mid engine rear wheel drive first due to my childhood fascination of this platform, I always thought of it as the most exotic. It was the first layout that really caught my attention and brought me into investigating these various layouts and how they work. Below are a set of 3 Concepts for BLRracing’s mid engine rear wheel drive offering.

BLR RACING: MARK 1

BLR RACING: MARK 1

Mark 1 is completely inspired by small sized lightweight MR (Mid Engine Rear Wheel Drive) platform cars. The target weight would be around 1,000 kg or 2200 lbs. The structural style for this model would be monocoque. Monocoque is a structural system where loads are supported through an object's external skin, similar to an egg shell. The monocoque chassis would also support a full cantilever suspension front and rear. The relative size and weight would allow the bay to hold a mid displacement longitudinal NA Inline 6 or a small displacement Turbo V6 with a goal of 350HP to 400HP. This number isn’t an all out supercar performance number but it is a healthy amount of power for a car that weighs 1000KG.

BLR RACING: MARK 2

BLR RACING: MARK 2

Mark 2 is inspired by mid sized lightweight high horsepower MR (Mid Engine Rear Wheel Drive) platform cars. The target weight would be around 1,200 kg or 2600 lbs. The structural style for this model would be monocoque much like the Mark 1 also supporting a full cantilever suspension front and rear. The relative size and weight would allow the bay to hold a mid displacement longitudinal NA or TURBO V6 or a small displacement NA or Turbo v8 with a goal of 550HP to 700HP. These power and weight figures would allow the car to perform very close to the current supersports category cars on the market today.

BLR RACING: MARK 3

BLR RACING: MARK 3

Mark 3 is inspired by full sized lightweight high horsepower MR (Mid Engine Rear Wheel Drive) platform cars. The target weight would be around 1,200 kg or 2600 lbs. The structural style for this model would be monocoque much like the Mark 1 also supporting a full cantilever suspension front and rear. The relative size and weight would allow the bay to hold a large displacement NA V8/V10/V12 or a mid displacement Turbo V8/V10/V12 with a goal of 700HP to 1000HP. These power and weight figures would allow the car to perform at peak levels with today’s best hypercars.
